Velotric Nomad 2 Review

Yo, it’s Matt

Here’s the skinny on the Velotric Nomad 2 ebike….

It rides like an electric bicycle, it’s not an electric motorcycle.

It’s a refined and polished fat tire ebike from an established brand.

The Nomad 2 is very strong, but not dangerously powerful like the “illegal” stuff such as Wired Freedom or E-cells Monstar.

The Nomad 2 did exceptionally well riding on the sand by the beach (to my surprise, much better than average 26×4 fatty’s) which really KILLED the range in my review video.

Velotric Nomad 2 Range

I only got 18 miles of range in my review video, but you’ll actually get double that if you don’t ride like a madman as I did in my review ride.

The realistic range of the Velotric Nomad 2 will be really dependent on how you use it. I’d say 35 miles of range on the Nomad 2 is practical and that’s what you’ll likely get (plus or minus 5 miles) if you ride it for fun and don’t put around going 10 mph.

The only way you’ll get the claimed 65 miles of range on it is if you go super slow, under 10 mph on the lowest eco mode power setting with the torque sensor assist and stay off the throttle, and avoid hills.

That being said, 35 miles of range is actually great using throttle and going fast because this Nomad 2 is a “light and nimble” fat tire ebike due to its relatively smaller battery: its a 48v 15ah roughly, which keeps this thing lighter than many fat tire ebikes with bigger range, but also makes this ebike more or a “bicycle” than a motorcycle.

You’re gonna get exercise on the Nomad 2, and it’ll feel good riding it. It’s not a cumbersome excessively heavy ebike.

Velotric Nomad 2 Comfort

The ComfortMax is a lot of marketing hype, BUT the Nomad 2 ebike is actually comfy. The seat is exceptionally ride and cushy, and the suspension seat post is a great way to isolate you from bumps in the road while keeping the weight and complexity of the bike to a minimum due to not having a “true rear suspension”. Real rear suspension CAN be better if a proper shock is specced (many ebikes don’t give a good rear shock), but real rear suspension comes at the cost of more weight, reduced battery range, more maintenance, and more price.

The adjustable handle bar angle and swept back handlebars are fantastic for comfort, and the RST shock up front is great for an ebike in this price range.

Riding the Nomad 2 is a pleasure. The torque sensor is fantastic and as you pedal the bike the motor will apply power in proportion to how hard you press on the pedals, which is intuitive and natural. It feels like riding a normal bicycle, with the feeling of someone lightly pushing you along making it easier than a non motorized bike.

The Nomad 2 is offered in 2 frame sizes, which is awesome because getting a bike that fits you size-wise is probably the most important part of riding any bike.

Hill Climbing

The power and torque of the Nomad 2 are great.

This ebike will easily pull you up steep hills just by using the throttle.

If you live in an area with lots of steep hills, this is the kind of ebike you’re going to want to have. Riding a non motorized bike up a hill is very difficult, but the Nomad 2 makes climbing steep hills an absolute breeze.

The Bottom Line

The Nomad 2 is an excellent fat tire ebike for “most riders”. It’s strong, refined, priced well, and built to last. The UL certified battery and electronics is the icing on the cake. If you’re looking for a “beginner friendly” strong fatty for comfortable cruising, you should buy this bike and don’t look back.
