Velotric Nomad 1 vs Aventon Aventure

Hey guys, this is just my unfiltered analysis of two fat tire electric bikes that are extremely popular. I’ve been fortunate enough to test and thoroughly review each of these Ebikes and I do have full reviews of them on YouTube. So let’s just get right into the good stuff:

Hill Climbing

The Velotric Nomad 1 is definitely the better hill climber of the two. Even though both of these bikes have roughly the same power, and almost the same battery size, it appears to me that the gearing of the hub motor on the Velotric Nomad 1 is geared towards climbing hills, where the Aventon Aventure is geared more for top speed. If you watch my video reviews, I do the same exact health test under thumb throttle only on each fat tire electric bike, and you can see that the Velotric Nomad 1 clearly outperforms the Aventon Aventure.

Top Speed

While both of these bike ship as a class 2 Ebike, you can access the menus and increase their top speed. The top speed of each bike out of the box is 20 mph.

After unlocking the Aventon Aventure, this Ebike will actually hit almost 33 mph under pedaling, which is freaking insane really, the Velotric Nomad 1 will only go about 25 mph. Now this goes back to the gearing of the internal hub motor. Most likely, the Velotric Nomad 1 is simply geared more for hill climbing and acceleration, and the Aventon Aventure appears to be geared more for higher speeds.

Range

So both bikes weigh almost the same, and they have almost the same size battery, and very similar power outputs. In terms of ebike range, you’re likely going to see very similar numbers on each electric bike, however, based on the delayed throttle response of the Aventon Aventure, I’d have to say that realistically you’ll end up getting better range on the Aventon Aventure. This really comes down to power output of the bike, since the Velotric Nomad 1 gives you access to all the power immediately off the line while the Aventon Aventurehas a slower ramp up in power you’re going to you get better range on the Aventure. The difference in range won’t be significant.

Smoothness of ride

The delayed throttle response on the Aventon Aventure is going to make for a smoother, more pleasant riding experience, while the Velotric Nomad 1 is more of a wild machine, an untamed beast, if you will. The throttle on the Velotric Nomad 1 does not give you any sort of delay or restriction on accessing all of the power and torque of the motor, and it is also geared more for acceleration. Because of this, the Velotric Nomad 1 can be a bit more of a jarring ride. If you’re not smooth on the accelerator, and the Aventon Aventure can be a bit more forgiving if you tend to just smash your throttle on the accelerator with no regards.

Aesthetics

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I have to say that both of these fat tire electric bikes are relatively good looking. I reviewed a lot of fat tire electric bikes in my day, and I’ve seen some pretty hideous looking ones, but neither of these ones look bad.

Price

In general, the Nomad 1 is going to run about $300 less so you’re definitely gonna get more bang for your buck with Velotric. Aventon has been around for a long time and they really don’t have any need to run discounts and attract customers in the way Velotric does. There’s already plenty of demand for Aventon as it’s an establish company while Velotric is still out making your name and proving themself in the marketplace.

Bottom Line

Ultimately, both of these electric bikes are pretty sweet machines, and I’d have to say that the text above should guide you in the right direction.
